The English Department at The Hurst is a committed team of passionate, experienced teachers, with high expectations of ourselves and our classes, who aim to empower pupils with a mastery of language and to enrich them through the study of literature, accessing a wide and varied curriculum in Key Stages 3 and 4.

The Department has regularly secured good outcomes at GCSE in both English Language and Literature, and progress made by pupils across the whole ability range is improving.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our group of professional and dynamic English staff to deliver the KS3 and KS4 English Language and Literature curriculum. You should be willing to share our values of Respect, Commitment, Ambition, Community and Excellence. We work very collegiately in order to share expertise and reduce additional workload. We are also active on Social Media with English Department accounts on Twitter and Instagram, and use the ‘Educake’ platform for setting of homework and revision.

Located mostly on the upper floor of the South Block, the department has 8 dedicated English classrooms, an intervention space and large staff work area. English teaching spaces are well-equipped with texts and resources, projectors and sound systems.

The MFL Department at The Hurst is a friendly team of committed professionals who aim to empower students and enrich their lives through the study of French, German and Spanish in Key Stage 3 and 4.

The Department regularly achieve high outcomes with GCSE results. This year saw another year-on-year positive trend for outcomes, with 80% students achieving Grades 4+ and 32% achieving Grades 7+ in French, with German results also improving - 72% at Grades 4+ and 21% at Grades 7+. 2024 is our first year with a GCSE Spanish cohort.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our highly regarded team in order to deliver Spanish through both Key Stages. The ability to teach French at Key Stage 4 would also be advantageous.

We are seeking to recruit a Teacher of Geography. The right candidate will be an outstanding classroom teacher who is passionate about Geography and will deliver innovative and engaging teaching and learning within the department.

The Geography Department is made up of 4 teachers including the Head of Department. All students at KS3 receive three lessons of Geography over their two-week timetable. Geography is a popular option in Key Stage 4.

The school is looking to appoint a highly motivated and committed Senior Leader to join an ambitious Senior Leadership Team, working strategically to improve outcomes for all students. The successful appointment of an Assistant Headteacher in this area will strengthen the capacity to ensure consistency across departments and strategically ensure that aspirations are high for all students including those in niche groups. Some aspects of the job description can be flexible dependent on the experience and skills of the successful candidate. This role will support the Deputy Headteacher in ensuring an outstanding Quality of Education is in place.
