We are incredibly proud of one of our Year 10 students, Bracken, who is embarking on a virtual marathon walk, covering a distance of 847 miles to raise money to help the youngest patients in local hospitals.

Bracken is planning to complete the incredible distance - which is the equivalent of walking from Lands End to John O’Groats - in nine months, with the money raised being donated to the neo natal units at Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals.

Bracken was inspired to raise money after her younger brother was cared for on a Neo Natal ward, and her long-term career goal is to be a Neo Natal nurse so that she help others. “I am working hard at school now towards this goal,” she said. “I decided to do this challenge as I want to do what I can to help those doing this job right now.”

Walking that distance will no doubt present some challenges, but it seems that Bracken is going to take them in her stride. “I think the challenges are that my legs are going to hurt!” she said. I have been walking locally near where I live with my family in the week, and then at weekends we have been travelling to different places including the New Forest so that we get some variety.”

We look forward to following her progress and updating you on the money she has raised.

“My friends’ reaction when I have told them I am doing his has been ‘oh wow!’ she said, “but I think they are proud of me, and am hoping that they will come along with me for some of the walks.”
