We are delighted to announce that Year 7 student Freya has been announced as winner of the Mayor’s Poetry Competition 2021.

At the end of last year, Basingstoke and Deane Mayor Cllr Onnalee Cubitt launched the competition, asking entrants from age 5-16 to create a poem that was a celebration of the River Loddon. The competition invited young poets to celebrate the borough’s chalk stream through verse and aimed to bring children closer to nature and to encourage them to treasure the local environment.

Freya’s poem was chosen as winner in the 8-11 age category and she has won an iPad. Congratulations to Freya on her incredible poem which is being displayed in school for the students and teacher to enjoy reading.
