DofE

“Your DofE shows you have fortitude and the ability to stick to a task, which is recognised by universities and employers alike.”
Steve Backshall

At The Hurst we give those in Year 9 the opportunity to challenge themselves and work towards the Bronze Award through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. It’s about far more than cooking over an open fire in the wild, it’s about standing out from the rest. We encourage you to set personal challenges and push your personal boundaries with expert guidance throughout. It’s about gaining work-ready skills, helping others, pushing yourself physically, and exploring the world.

DofE Bronze Award Applications Now Open! *Yr 9 Only*

To complete your Bronze DofE award with The Hurst, I will be expecting a letter of application explaining why you want to complete the award and why you are a good candidate to complete it.

We are anticipating that there will be a high number of applicants therefore we can’t afford to take on people who won’t turn up to training sessions or expeditions, so I need to know that you are really motivated to start and finish the award, an award which offers so much.

The DofE endeavours to keep your costs down so the current Welcome Pack, which includes the participation fee, is £23.00 for the Bronze Award. There may be additional costs for activities and some administration however I will endeavour to keep these costs low as I would like to DofE to be accessible to everyone.

The deadline for letters of application is Monday 6th December 2021 and successful applicants will be notified by EduLink by Friday 7th of January 2022.

Application letters should be handed to myself, Miss Croft in 304 (Geography block) this is also where we shall be holding our fortnightly meetings (all details will be published at the time of application acceptance)

Further information about the DofE award can be found at the following website: -

Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to pop along to room 304 or send me an email.

Really looking forward to starting this Bronze DofE adventure with you all!
