Vacancy - Parent Governors
The Hurst School is extremely ambitious and fully committed to ensuring every pupil excels in their achievements. Governors, therefore, have a crucial role to play to support these goals.
The Governing Body's main tasks are to:
- ensure that the School has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the School and its pupils;
- oversee the financial performance of the School and make sure its money is well spent.
The School is currently rated as Good and is looking for enthusiastic recruits to join us in building on this position and further developing and enhancing the provision that the Hurst School provides for its pupils. We have a proactive and enthusiastic Governing Body who work together as a team to support the Hurst in remaining one of the top local secondary schools. We are a friendly group and meet as a Full Governing Body six times a year on a Monday night and are supported by three working committees made up of both governors and Hurst professionals. You will be expected to be a member of at least one of the committees, as well as the Full Governing Board.
Note that although meetings take place in person, the Governing Body communicates electronically, including the use of bespoke governor software to manage and access all documentation.
You can look at information for prospective governors on the Hampshire County Council website https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/governors/volunteer. Alternatively, if you would like to speak to the Chair of Governors, please let us know.
Please note that for the protection of children, all governor appointments are subject to a DBS vetting process, identity check, references and completion of an application form and skills audit. Please don’t worry about what skills you might not have as the purpose of the skills audit is to see where the strengths of the Governing Body lie and how to best use these and the available training resources.
Both an application form and skills audit need to be completed and returned to the Clerk of Governors, firstname.lastname@example.org by 12.00 noon on Friday 29th October 2021.
