PDL (Personal Development)

Back to Subjects

The Personal Development Department (PDL) at the Hurst School aims to challenge students to think critically about the world around them and prepare them for adulthood.

The Personal Development curriculum is divided into 3 key sections; Citizenship, Religious Studies and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education). Each of these stands are taught at specific times of the year, in order to enable students to develop and build on prior knowledge. Citizenship is taught in the Autumn term, Religious Studies in the Spring term and finally, PSHE in the Summer term.

Our aim is to embed important cultural capital that will allow our students to have a firm understanding of our key British values to equip them to become good citizens. We will achieve this by exploring key concepts throughout the PDL curriculum. These key concepts can be broken down into; relationships, personal identity and healthy living, safety, education and finances, citizenship and charity, world religions and ethical debates.
