This qualification is for students who have an interest in working with young children or wish to develop their knowledge and practical skills in child development, to build towards a career in the field of education or health.

Cambridge National Level 1/2 with OCR

The course covers all aspects of child development and parental responsibility, from conception to five years. Students develop the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to create the best conditions for a child’s development and well-being. Students follow the OCR course.

KS4: Areas of study

Unit 1  (RO57)will cover the essential knowledge and understanding for child development, covering reproduction, pregnancy, conditions for development, and childhood illnesses. Knowledge gained would be of use for further studies in PHSE, Biology and other Child Development qualifications.

In Unit 2 (RO58), students will gain knowledge of how to create a safe environment for babies and young children and an understanding of the nutrients needed between birth and 5 years.

In Unit 3 (RO59), students will gain knowledge and understanding of how a child develops from birth to the age of five.

How will you be assessed?

  • 60% coursework made up of internally assessed projects.
  • 40% exam that will cover all aspects of the course.
